Sarah has a background in architecture and graphic design. She is influenced by the many eclectic cities such as London, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver. These cities all play their own part in Sarah’s work. Through her art she tries to reinterpret her memories of these cities and the people she has encountered in them. Sarah has been developing skills and techniques with fabric. She selects quality fabrics and carefully wash and dye them. The fabric is stitched using a sewing machine in an improvised process, like painting or collage. This allows Sarah to create a gradual build-up of colour and texture. Finally, the finished piece is stretched over a wooden frame and completed with a hanging wire. Sarah uses textiles in fine art to create bold impressionist pieces of work. These represent her thoughts about the places she has travelled to.
The work below is a representation of Sarah’s views and opinions of the places she has visited. The piece looks at the electric city skyline. The bright colours probably show neon signs and the white in the background probably represents daylight. It’s a really beautiful piece if artwork and I could easier look at it for hours.
