What is light painting?
Light painting is an imagining technique that uses a moving light source to add light to a subject while taking a long-exposure photograph. A scene or object can be brought to life by painting with a beam of light. Light painting is a type of performance photography that uses a moving light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or space, or to shine light at the camera to 'draw', or by moving the camera itself during exposure of light sources.
In the slide show below I have taken my own images of light photography.

ARTIST
An example of a light painting artist I found interesting was photographer Patrick Rochon. He began Light Painting in 1992 and was declared a full time light painter in 1997. Rochon is known for his visionary light painting portraits as well as his work in the automotive world and his live light painting performances. He creates his light painting works by taking the art of light painting photography beyond its limits. In the early 90’s Patrick was living in New York and did a gallery exhibition with T.Y.K.2, the owner of the exhibition decided to fly the artist to Japan for an exhibition there. This cause him to fall in love with Tokyo. Patrick loved it so much that he didn't go back on his flight home and lived in Tokyo for 10 years. Patrick is now back living in Montreal Canada working on his light painting imagery. |
These are some of the photos of his work that I found interesting and enjoyed looking at because of their colours, aesthetics and style. |
