I started doing an experiment based off the flowers wearing face masks. These flowers are an important accept of my final outcome what I will discuss later. The materials I used to create these flowers are thick, black pen and Copic Markers. These will make bold and brilliant colours within my work.
I took a photo of my friend while we were out shopping and I decided to draw her for my final outcome. This is the sample of my final piece as I didn't know if the drawing of my friend would turn out the way I wanted it to as I am still not great at proportions. This drawing clearly needs fixed as it does not get across the message I want to imply within my work. I wanted to create an older kind of grimy and disgusting looking person that doesn't believe in the need of face masks. They would also preferably need to wear glasses they it makes them feel like they are too intelligent for society and believe that they know what's right.
This is the process of my final outcome. I wanted to show to step by step process I took to make my final outcome. I decided to make my friend look about 3 times her age as it has been known that the older generation dos not want to wear face masks correctly as they are either 'uncomfortable or it makes it hard to breathe'. I created my original sketch in HB pencil and outlined it with black inky pen. The flowers were also outlined in black ink and they coloured in with bold Copic Markers. This takes inspiration from my artist Takashi Murakami.
My final outcome looks at how society today views people who wear face masks. Today countries around the world like the USA are divided about the wearing of face masks from a liberal and political point of view. Face masks have been proven to help prevent the spread of COVID 19 and yet people are choosing to not wear them, This can be due to their ignorance, arrogance or selfishness; however, there is also the side of peoples' freedom of speech and the choice of what people can do with their own bodies. This has lead to arguments about the globe. In my opinion, I feel as if everyone should wear face masks as it helps to prevent the spread of COVID and help to keep vulnerable people safe. I have picked the flowers to wear face masks as this represents people who have chosen to wear face masks. As they have been coloured in this shows how they are full of lively colours and have a greater chance of survival within this pandemic. Just like my artist Takashi Murakami, I have used his flower pattern to express my opinion on face masks as the flowers represent calm and tranquillity. I have also left in the sketch lines within the drawing to show the imperfections of everyone in society and how no one is perfect as we are all human.
To development my work I would like to try a couple of different mediums and use different materials to see what the differences would be. I would also like to change up the colour palette and create my own colours digitally instead of working on paper. To develop and make this piece better I would like to improve on my proportions when it comes to drawing people as I believe this would help me gain more experience and become a better artist on a whole.
