Camille Pissarro was born on 10 July 1830 and died 13 November 1903. He was a Danish-French Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painter born on the island of St Thomas. Pissarro studied from great forerunners, including Gustave Courbet and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. He later studied and worked alongside Georges Seurat and Paul Signac when he took on the Neo-Impressionist style at the age of 54. In 1873, he helped establish a collective society of fifteen aspiring artists, becoming the "pivotal" figure in holding the group together and encouraging the other members. Art historian John Rewald called Pissarro the "dean of the Impressionist painters", not only because he was the oldest of the group, but also "by virtue of his wisdom and his balanced, kind, and warmhearted personality". Paul Cézanne said "he was a father for me. A man to consult and a little like the good Lord", and he was also one of Paul Gauguin's masters. Pissarro is the only artist to have shown his work at all eight Paris Impressionist exhibitions.
I really enjoy Pissaros pointism style of painting. He creates beautiful painting using small dots. I was really drawn into the piece about the movement over the bridge. It shows the hussle and bussle of people living in the 19th and 20th century. I love the look of the water and the reflection off it created by the sun. I also adore the colour palette and the look of the victoriana buildings with the green and brown roofs. One of my favourite aspects to this piece is the shadowing amd contract on the bridge. Manet has used browns, greens and yellows to create this look and it adds depth and tones to the painting breaking it up and giving it more detail.
I also really enjoy looking at the painting about the gardens. This piece uses bright and bold colours giving the paintingb a happy and bright look to it. The part that stands out the most about this piece is the red brick path way. It helps to break up the painting and draw the viewers eyes away from the green. This painting has a varity of tones and shadows that really make this painting pop. The shrubs, trees and bushes all have different shades of green throughout it as well as different colours from the flora adorning the plants. This creates depth and a more realistic look on the painting.
